Drumtrivia:
- Chad uses Pearl Hardware, Remo Drum Heads and LP Percussion.
- Chad also has used other snares in his time with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he has used a variety of snares while recording & live, including a Ludwig Black Beauty used on Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Brady 14x5.5" Jarrah Wood Model used when recording One Hot Minute and live from 1992 to 1998, a DW 14x5" Edge Snare on parts of the Californication Tour, and a Pearl 14x5" BK/Brass Sensitone Classic II Snare for the By The Way Tours, and for parts of the Stadium Arcadium Tours (this is a very similar drum to a Ludwig Black Beauty which he loves.).
- Chad got his BSSM-Tour Kit painted by his good friend Johnny Douglas. Johnny still paints the custom Bass-Drum Heads for the Chili Peppers.
- Another significant item on Chad's kit is the bass-beater. Since the By the Way-era, Chad has gone vintage. He uses a round hard-felt beater by Vater.
- Chad uses the Pearl Eliminator 2000C Bass Pedal (always chaindrive) with the regular black cams. (He used the blue cams in the past).
- In 2006-07, Chad has made a lot of changes to his kit. In mid 2006, Chad used a big prototype 22" Sabian AA Rock Crash on a few gigs in England. (Not anymore). In late 2006, Chad added a side Snare Drum, which he uses as a timbale, and added another China to his Kit. Also, Chad has used a few different Snare Drums on the 2006-07' tours. He started out using a 14x5" Pearl BK/Brass Sensitone Classic II Snare, but in late 2006 changed to a 14x5" Pearl Ultracast Snare. In (June-July) 2007, Chad added another snare to his live-collection, a Yamaha 14x5.5" Jimmy Chamberlin Signature Model. Chad currently switches between these snare drums, during a gig, but uses the Yamaha 14x5.5" as his main snare and for most of the show. He still uses the Pearl Sensitone II Classic, but rarley. He mostly uses this snare at Drum Clinics, or when performing with Glenn Hughes.
- Chad always mics his snare up twice, both above and below. This way, you'll get the full "ring" of the shell-material, which he adores.
